Memorial Service Held for Former IQNA Chief Martyred in Tehran Terror Attacks

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A memorial service was held in Tehran on Monday for Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Mehdi Taqavi who achieved martyrdom in a terrorist attack on Iran’s parliament last week.

A number of Quranic, cultural and political officials as well as people from all walks of life attended the commemoration ceremony.

Addressing the event, senior Iranian cleric Hojat-ol-Islam Ali Reza Panahian described Hojat-ol-Islam Taqavi as a combatant on the cultural front.

He said Hojat-ol-Islam Taqavi loved the Islamic Revolution and sought the spiritual growth of the revolution.

He further referred to the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group as the enemy’s last resort against Islam and Muslims, expressing confidence that the Takfiri group will be destroyed.

At least 17 people were killed and more than 40 injured in Tehran on Wednesday, when gunmen attacked the parliament and the Mausoleum of the late Founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini on Wednesday.

Hojat-ol-Islam Taqavi, the former managing director of the International Quran News Agency (IQNA) was among the martyrs.

Daesh claimed responsibility for the near-simultaneous assaults.

On Thursday, the Iranian Intelligence Ministry released the names of the five terrorists who were killed after carrying out the deadly attacks in Tehran.
