4,500 Qurans Gifted to Muslim Community in Ivory Coast
The copies were delivered to Imam Othman Diyakiti, head of the Supreme Council of Imams, Mosques and Islamic Affairs of Ivory Coast during a ceremony on Monday.
Moroccan Ambassador Abdul Malik al-Kattani was present at the ceremony, according to Yabliadi website.
Diyakiti said the 4,500 Qurans will be distributed among Muslims in different parts of the country.
He noted that they include 900 copies of the Holy Book in braille which will be given to visually-impaired Muslims.
The cleric also hailed the Moroccan king, Mohammed VI, for gifting the Qurans to the Muslim community in the country.
Ivory Coast, officially the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, is a country on the southern coast of West Africa.
According to the most recent census (in 2014), 42 percent of the people in Ivory Coast are Muslim, 34 percent are Christian, and the rest are adherents of indigenous religious beliefs.
