Mohammad Taghi Amini made the remarks in an exclusive interview with IQNA.
He noted that the Iranian cultural center in Italy pursues strengthening friendship between the two nations.
"These two countries are centers for Shia Islam and Catholic Christianity. Accordingly, interfaith dialogue is a solution to enhance mutual understanding," Amini noted.
So far, 11 sessions of interfaith dialogue have been held with the participation of Iran's Islamic Culture and Relations Organization and related Pontifical council, he said, adding that the 12th session will be held in November 2022.
The next session of the dialogue will focus on healing the world's wounds caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, he added.
Elsewhere, the envoy pointed to the need for confronting Iranophobia and Shiaphobia waves that can disrupt the nature of the dialogue.
