IQNA – The deputy secretary general of Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement rejected ideas about establishment of a ceasefire in southern Lebanon without an end to the war on Gaza.

Hezbollah deputy chief Sheikh Naim Qassem

Sheikh Naim Qassem said anyone who has an initiative under the guise of a ceasefire in southern Lebanon in order to give Israel a more free hand to control the Gaza Strip should think again.

Such an initiative would mean he “wants us to support the Zionist enemy”, he stated, Al-Quds Al-Arabi reported.

“We stand with Gaza and Palestine not with Israel. So first the issue of Gaza must be resolved and then that of Lebanon.”

He further referred to the threats of an Israel invasion of Lebanon and said such threats show that the resistance is moving in the right direction and has adopted the right stances.

Sheikh Qassem also dismissed remarks by the Zionist regime’s war minister about the return of settlers to settlement units in the northern parts of the occupied territories and said they would not be able to return as long as the war continues.

He reiterated that Hezbollah is steadfast in its support for Gaza, adding that the benefits of the resistance movement’s support go beyond the Gaza Strip and would create a deterrence force against the Zionists.

A number of Western countries, including France, have proposed plans for a ceasefire between Hezbollah and the Israeli regime in recent months.

Hezbollah has vowed to continue attacks on Israel’s military positions until the regime stops its aggression on Gaza that has killed more than 34,000 Palestinians since it started in early October 2023.
