The Awqaf ministry of Egypt said the plan, dubbed “Protecting Children with Quran” has been launched in the provinces of Alexandria, Aswan, Assiut, Beheira, Beni Suef, Cairo, Dakahlia, Damietta, Fayoum, Gharbia, Giza, Ismailia, Kafr el-Sheikh, Menofia, South Sinai, Qualyubia, Qena, Al-Sharqia, Sohaj, and South Sinai, among others.
More than 5,000 mosques in these provinces are playing host to the Quranic initiative, it added.
In this plan, children learn how to read the 30th Juz (part) of the Holy Quran and get familiar with the meanings and concepts of the verses.
There are also lessons offered on moral virtues based on the Holy Quran.
The imams of mosques teach the Surahs and lessons, the ministry said.
The plan is aimed at elevating the religious and Quranic knowledge and skills of children.
