IQNA – Egypt’s Quran Radio banned recitation by a senior qari due to making an error in reciting the Holy Quran recently.

Egyptian qari Sheikh Mohammed Hamed al-Kislawi

Sheikh Mohammed Hamed al-Salkawi is not allowed to recite the Holy Quran at Quran Radio and other radio stations for six months.

He is not even allowed to record any recitation, according to Al-Misri al-Yawm website.

During the Friday prayers last week, which was also attended by the country’s Awqaf minister, al-Salkawi made a mistake while reciting verses from Surah Al-An’am.

The mistake was widely criticized by social media users and the president of Egypt’s Association of Quran Reciters also vowed to take measures against the qari.

According to Mohammed Nawar, the head of the Quran Radio, a committee was set up to investigate the issue.

The committee members unanimously described the mistake as unacceptable, he added.
