TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Imam Hussein (AS) Mosque or Al-Hussain Mosque in Cairo will host a Quran recitation program on May 20.

It will be organized by the country’s Awqaf Ministry and attended by 30 prominent qaris, according to al-Misrawi news website.

The qaris, as well as a number of imams of mosques, will do a Khatm Quran (recite the entire Quran) at the program, Egyptian Awqaf Minister Mohammed Mukhtar Gomma said.

He did not mention the names of the qaris who will take part at Imam Hussein (AS) Mosque Quranic event.

He made the remarks in a ceremony held Friday to honor qaris and Ibtihal reciters who contributed to the ministry’s Quranic and religious programs during the holy month of Ramadan (March 23-April 21).

The programs are aimed at promoting Quran contemplation and reviving the role of mosques in propagation of religious teachings.

The participation of senior qaris also helps the people attending these programs to learn the rules of correct pronunciation of the words and recitation of the verses.

Al-Hussein Mosque is a famous mosque in an old section of Cairo which was originally constructed in 1154 and was reconstructed in 1874.

Egypt is a country in North Africa with a population of around 100 million.

Muslims account for around 90 percent of the country’s total population.

Quranic activities are very common in the Arab country and many of the Muslim world’s top qaris in the past and present have been Egyptian.
