The unveiling ceremony was held in the capital Tripoli on Saturday evening, Al-Wasat news website reported.

It was attended by political and social officials and ambassadors of a number of Muslim countries to Libya as well as memorizers of the Holy Quran, among others.

Abdul Hamid al-Dbeibeh, the GNU prime minister, in an address highlighted his support for Quran memorizers and activists in the country.

He also hailed the efforts made by a committee of Quran experts to prepare the Mus’haf of the Awqaf organization.

Muhammad al-Abani, head of the organization, also praised the committee and highlighted the GNU’s financial and spiritual support for the completion of the project.

Members of the committee as well as the National Quran Committee were honored later at the ceremony.

It had been announced earlier that the Awqaf organization committee, made up of Sheikhs, scholars and Quran experts from different parts of the North African country, spent five years to review and analyze the copy before issuing permit for its publication.

Libya is a Muslim-majority country in North Africa that has more than a million Quran memorizers.

The country has been in turmoil since a NATO-backed civil war in 2011 overthrew and killed veteran dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

It has been split between the GNU in Tripoli and an eastern-based administration.
