TEHRAN (IQNA) – Sheikh Shaban Abdul Aziz Sayyad is among the top Egyptian qaris with a style that is known for being popular and passionate.

He was born on September 20, 1940, in Egypt's Sarawak, Menofia Governorate. His father, Abdul Aziz Esmail Sayyad was a top qari at the time and this was enough for young Shaban to develop strong interest in Quran recitation.

At the age of seven, he accomplished full Quran memorization and at the age of 12, he was already receiving invitations to participate in Quranic circles.

Years later, he entered the faculty of Osoul El Dine in Al Azhar University and studied philosophy.
As far as his recitation is concerned, Sayyad was following the styles of masters such as Muhammad Rifat and Mustafa Ismail.

In 1975, the top qari could successfully enter Egypt's Quran Radio and this was a start for the broadcasting of his recitations across the country and even the world.

During his lifetime, he travelled to several countries, including Iran, offering valuable recitations to audiences from different nationalities.

He was also among the few qaris who had a close relationship with media as various aspects of his life have been reflected in different media outlets.

In an interview with IQNA, Iran's international Quran referee Mehdi Daghagheleh lauded the position that Sayyad has among top contemporary qaris.

He said that Sayyad was following a popular style, meaning that his recitation was enthusiastically welcomed by local people of Egypt. According to the expert, this style also brought passion that affected the audience.

Shaban Sayyad passed away in 1998 at the age of 58.
