TEHRAN (IQNA) – Lebanese resistance movements Hezbollah and Amal called on the Arab country’s Shia Muslims to hold mourning rituals in Muharram at home.

In a joint statement, the two resistance groups urged the people to follow the recommendations by religious authorities on not organizing large mourning processions and gatherings during Muharram due to the coronavirus pandemic, Al-Manar TV reported.

The devotees of Imam Hussein (AS) ought to observe all the health protocols in the mourning rituals, they underlined.

Holding the rituals at home, delivering sermons via the cyberspace and social media to promote the message of Ashura, and raising black flag and banners were Amal and Hezbollah’ other recommendations for this year’s Muharram.

The third Shia Imam (AS) and a small group of his followers and family members were martyred by the tyrant of his time - Yazid Bin Moaweya, in the battle of Karbala on the tenth day of Muharram (known as Ashura) in the year 680 AD.
