TEHRAN (IQNA) – Ahmed Ahmed Noiana is one of Egypt’s most prominent Quran reciters.

The 63-year-old is a physician specializing in pediatrics.

Born in 1954 in the town of Matubas in Kafr El Sheikh governorate, he started learning the Quran at a traditional Quran school at the age of 3.

He managed to memorize the entire Quran at 8 and continued to learn the rules of Tajweed and Quran recitation.

While at university, he gained mastery over the ten styles of Quran recitation and in 1979 became an official Qari of Egypt’s national TV and radio.

He follows the recitation styles of such masters as Sheikh Abdul Basit Abdul Samad, Abolainain Shoaisha, Minshawi, Hisri and others.

But has mostly been influenced by the style of Shiekh Mustafa Ismail.

In an interview with Egyptian weekly al-Yawm al-Jadid, Noaina said that his career as a pediatrician does not prevent him from reading and reciting the Quran.

"Every day after morning prayers, I spend my time reciting the Quran. On my way to the hospital, I also recite one or two Juzes of the Holy Book,” he said, adding that every day he recites at least five Juzes.

He also noted that he still listens to recorded recitations by late Egyptian Quran masters like Minshawi, Mustafa Ismail, Ghalwash, Ahmed Amir and Bahtimi.

Noiana has traveled to many countries for recitation of the Quran and has also won the top ranks in international Quran competitions, including those in India, Malaysia and Brunei.

He has also visited Iran several times, reciting the Quran in various programs and serving as a member of panel of judges in Iran’s international Quran contests.
