Speaking to IQNA, he said the Iranian Academics’ Quranic Activities Organization (IAQAO) and the Russian Council of Muftis can jointly work in such fields as international Quran contests, the media, education and Quranic arts.

He made the remarks after the IAQAO and the Russian Council of Muftis signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Moscow earlier this week.

Maleki hailed the diversity in the Quranic activities of the Iranian Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research (ACECR), of which IAQAO is an affiliate, and said it can co9ntribute to Quranic activities in Russia.

Iran’s experiences in Quranic fields, not only in recitation and memorization or holding Quran competitions, but also in Quranic media activities and Quranic arts are considered unique for Russian Muslims, he said.

Maleki noted that the Russian Muslim society and other Muslims in Russian-speaking regions need a Quranic media outlet so they can be informed of Quranic activities and news in the field.

The IAQAO and its International Quran News Agency (IQNA) can help the Muslims through joint cooperation in the field of Quranic media activities, he stated.

Elsewhere, the Iranian envoy described the signing of the MoU as a milestone in Quranic cooperation between Iran and the Russian Muslim community, saying the document paves the way for enhanced cooperation in the future.

Given the current situation in the Muslim world, he said, such joint activities will contribute to promoting unity, proximity, solidarity and fraternity in the Muslim Ummah as the pivot of unity among Muslims is the Holy Quran.

Asked whether the cooperation document can be implemented in other republics of Russia such as Chechnya, Dagestan, and Tatarstan, he said that is the case as the Russian Council of Muftis supervises Muslims’ religious activities in other republics as well.

The MoU was signed in a ceremony in the Grand Mosque in Moscow on Tuesday during a trip to Russia by a delegation from the ACECR.
